Volunteer Job Description
Purpose of Role:
To ensure clients of the programme have an exceptional snow sports experience. To assist adaptive students before, during and after their lesson.

The Remarkables and Coronet Peak Ski Areas
NZSki Adaptive/Snow Sports NZ will supply:
- On going training to improve adaptive skills
- Uniform jacket
- Lift pass benefits
Qualities, skills and experience required:
- A strong intermediate level skier/snowboarder
- Be independent on the snow
- Able to assist others while skiing/snowboarding
- A willingness to understand the needs of people with physical and intellectual disabilities
- A genuine interest in volunteering in Adaptive Snowsports
- Be physically fit
- Be flexible, motivated and a hard worker
- Work well with people of all ages and abilities
- Have an open minded approach and a willingness to learn
Duties:
- Regular Volunteer – be able to commit to volunteering a minimum of 12 days during the NZSki season.
- Casual – be available from time to time throughout the NZSki season
- Attend the initial the initial sign-up, health, safety and wellbeing induction and a minimum of 1 day’s on-snow training
- Assist adaptive students, before, during and after lesson
- Provide safe and positive experiences
- Ongoing maintenance of equipment throughout season
- Encourage people to write letters of support for the NZSki Adaptive Snowsports Programme
- Encourage all disabled people to take up adaptive membership of Snow Sports NZ
- Provide ongoing awareness and promotion of the adaptive programme
- Bring any incidents to the attention of the adaptive co-ordinator as soon as possible
Training
- NZSki and Snow Sports NZ will provide appropriate initial training and ongoing training throughout the season
Code of Conduct
- Make an effort to learn as much as possible from others
- Whilst working you are expected to carry your duties out in a professional manner
- Your appearance should be clean and kempt at all times
- Please do not attempt something you are not sure or confident of, don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance
- Observe the Smoke Free status of the ski areas
- Treat everyone fairly within the context of their activity, regardless of gender, place of origin, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political belief, economic status or ability
- Direct comments or feedback at the performance rather than the individual
- Refrain from public criticism of fellow volunteers
- Work with integrity and honesty
- Abstain from using and/or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol when volunteering for the programme or working with students
- Refrain from the use of profane, insulting, harassing, or otherwise offensive language in the conduct of his/her duties
- Ensure that the activity being undertaken is suitable for the age, experience, ability and fitness level of the students and educate students as to their responsibilities in contributing to a safe environment
- Ensure you do not use their position or influence with The NZSki Adaptive Programme for personal financial gain
